Party Décor

Additional Tips

The DIY Trail Mix Bar included mini marshmallows, Goldfish, Teddy Grahams, M&Ms, and raisins.

Since s’mores are a huge part of the summer camp theme (but maybe not practical for a large group of children to do in the middle of the day), I suggest making the birthday cake a s’mores cake! With marshmallow buttercream frosting, decorated with chocolate-drip graham crackers, it’s a delicious combination of birthday festivities and campfire fun!

Prep

Prepare perfect party decor.

Merit Badges

Materials

Directions

  1. Print the badges at any local print shop. To ensure that they will be protected (from water, etc) and more durable during the party it might be a good idea to have them laminated (this is, however, optional).
  2. Cut out all of the badges.
  3. Apply a small amount of hot glue to the back of the badge and attach the pin back. Done! Now your little campers are ready to earn their merit badges!

Additional Tip: Below is a suggested list of ideas/activities for your little campers to earn their merit badges. Have fun with it and get creative!

  • Nature Study badge: nature scavenger hunt
  • Arts & Crafts badge: painting birdhouses and wooden snake
  • Bug Study badge: bug toss game of throwing large plastic bugs into butterfly nets; bug spray (silly string) game
  • Best Buddy badge: singing Happy Birthday
  • Water Sports badge: water balloon toss; water squirters game

Bug Spray Game

Materials

Directions

Before the party:

  1. Print all of the “bug spray” labels and cut them out.
  2. Wrap the labels around the cans of silly string attaching them with double-sided tape.

During the party:

  1. Spread the picnic blanket on the grass.
  2. Next, sprinkle plastic bugs all over the blanket.
  3. Gather all of the children for the game.
  4. Explain to them the imaginary premise of the game. Bugs have taken over the picnic area at camp and they need to spray them.
  5. Pass out all of the cans of “bug spray” silly string.
  6. Let all the kids have fun and spray away!!

Assemble

Styling tips

Just Add Confetti shares its top tips for pulling off this event.

Tip 1

Use a camp itinerary and merit badges to add structure to the party. Have the kids do all of the activities at the party to earn their merit badges.

Tip 2

Get creative with the food! Instead of trying to roast s’mores have an s’mores cake instead! Make the fruit kebabs into archery arrows. Let the guests make their own trail mix at the Trail Mix Bar.

Tip 3

Have fun with the theme! Have the adults/hosts act as the camp counselors to add to the theme.

Tip 4

Add some real wood slabs to the tablescape to add to the theme. Also, they create great texture and you can even stack them to create different elevations.

Tip 5

Save the water activities for last! Let the party end with a splash with the water sports merit badge!
